Dr. Sassani is a board certified sub-specialty-trained ophthalmologist. He practices general ophthalmology and specializes in the surgical and medical conditions of the retina and vitreous including dry and wet macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, intraocular infections, and retinal vascular diseases. His surgical interests include complicated cataracts, macular puckers, retinal detachment repair, and proliferative vitreoretinopathy.

Dr. Sassani received his medical degree from the University of California – San Diego School of Medicine.  Prior to his medical school training, Dr. Sassani was a productive investigative scientist in the fields of biophysics and stem cell research. He completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA where he graduated with highest honor – summa cum laude.

Dr. Sassani completed his ophthalmology residency at prestigious University of Chicago where he served as chief resident. He also functioned as resident ambassador for ophthalmology in Washington, DC.  He then completed a busy two-year fellowship in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Wisconsin hospital and clinics.

Dr. Sassani has been published in numerous articles and meeting abstracts. He has been involved in basic research and clinical trials studying various new and emerging treatments in the field of retina, including prevention of scar formation in the eye.

Dr. Sassani is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Retina Surgeons. His hospital affiliations include UCLA West Valley Hospital, Providence Holy Cross Hospital, Valley Presbyterian Hospital and Northridge Hospital.
